I cannot adequately express how happy I am for you for your win. You are so deserving of this tangible success. But please know that even in the past few years, when you may have been struggling with race results, you still provided profound inspiration to me and many others. I did not see you once show any sign of negativity - disappointment sometimes, yes - but no blame, no complaining. You found the positives and kept moving upward. I have to think your success at Leadville was karma paying you back for all the sparkle you've given to the world. Kudos to you and your team!
Thank you for such a meaningful comment, it means a lot to know that it’s not just the days when it all comes together that count. It’s all the ones before too ❤️
Amazing race, Kate! My daughters were there watching their dad race, and you are such an inspiration to them (all of us, really). Amazing victory and beautiful write up. Keep sharing your passion because it fuels us all!
I am not a mountain bike racer, but everything you shared hit home. On every level we are capable of more than we think. Thank you for your abundant inspiration.
This was a great read and I think it really underscores what makes Leadville so unique. It doesn’t matter if you’re a pro or amateur, Leadville makes you feel alive in a way no outsider will understand. There are things that happen on that bike during the day that change you as a person, everyone finds a piece of themselves they never knew existed. I cried when I saw the winners cross and I cried when I saw the riders finishing at 11:57 because I know the amount of depth they all had to reach to accomplish their goals. Also, where else do you see top professional athletes congratulating amateurs in the same contest?! Anyone that toes the start line at Leadville is a part of the story and you have forever etched your place in that story. Congratulations on your record!
Absolutely amazing! Just know that even in your tough times when you get out there and things don’t go your way, as is often the case in any athletic pursuit, you inspire the young, the old, the seasoned racer, the novice and the casual watcher. Results are great, but that’s never been the point. It’s just too damn hard for them to be. Keep rolling Kate and we will show up to cheer you on. Congrats on a massive achievement!
Im from Costa Rica and since the first time i saw you race....when Redbull broadcasted the WC...you have been one of my favorite riders....and since then.....i try to keep up on all the races you take part on......when i saw on Youtube race....and saw you were there...(did not chatch the live broadcast..saw it later)...i already knew by the social media posts that you won....but until i saw the video of the race i realized the amazing way that you did that......i now by reading this.....it amazes me the degree of preparness....tactics....mental set up that you took on it to be able to do what you did in such an incredible way.....any other rider with a 7 minutes lead would just sit up to keep it and do not care about any record.....but....reading this show us that you are an amazing rider....maybe crushing the record was not part of the plan...but...if possibilty shows...take it...and you did it in such an amazing way.......Thanks for being such an inspiration for us normal riders..on my case..saturdays cyclist.....to know that even on our rides we always can have the chance to go a little deeper and try to go farther than the last time by the route choosen to do that day....Congrats for your win on this...your World Championships and all the great things that are coming on your way......Rgds.
Congratulations on a spectacular performance you put & winning in course record time, especially in your debut at this race. And it is great to hear from you that you are still learning not to under estimate yourself, it is great reminder for people like us who are in any walk of life in their amateur phase that even the professionals have to deal with this. If we our selves won't have that delusional belief that heck yeah I can do this, how others will show confidence in us.
Contrary to this post I didn't dig deep. I had a 78 KM race race on 22nd which started at 15000 feet. I played it start from the gun & now I am quite pissed of why the fuck I played it safe. It is all playing my in my head, you again fucked up, you didn't run the race boldly. I completed it in 8:13, an average performance. And now reading this I am feeling like crap that I should stop running.
The whole post was filled with uncertainty that it won't be record breaking year but at last you dug deep in the reservoir and pushed when there wasn't left much to give.
The same story goes for Anne Flower, the winner of Leadville 100 Run race. She hadn't planned to run the race even 20 days out and she hadn't ever 100 miles in one go, the farthest she ran was 100 KM. She even broke the Ann Trason's record in her rodeo. Sometimes Ignorance can work as bliss for sure. One needs to show confidence in them selves that they can do it and keep digging deep when there is nothing left to give.
I need to learn this thing of digging deep in this long endurance events because it is to easy to cop out by saying I am tired & I can't push further. It can do wonders both in athletic life and outside it as well.
Melisa Rollins made her debut in 2016 in a time of 10:12 and then took a DNF in 2017 and from there on she has improved her time and this very year snuck under 7 hour, might be an effect of you. But this also shows that this ain't that easy of a race, one needed dig the deepest to break the CR and you did in that fashion, seems your hurt locker has got huge depth.
Love the quote about doing hard things giving us the opportunity to dig deep within ourselves. Happy to see it all worked out and can't wait to see you back in the World Cup circuit for more of this world class racing. This year, this whole project is all so inspiring. Keep up te good work, keep sending it 🚀
Amazing Race, Amazing write up. Pure champion. You are correct doing hard things allows us to prove to ourselves we are more capable than the doubts in our head tell us at times. Congratulations!
Beyond inspiring - I saw you come in and was moved to tears! Later on you stopped in our shop with your crew and I didn't recognize you and asked how your race went🤣LOL, still kicking myself that I didn't throw a hat on you and brand it with your record time, let me know where we can send it! Thanks for inspiring us, we are still talking about it in Leadville💗
Thank you for this personal, vulnerable, and deeply insightful entry. Your story and journey has been so motivating to myself and countless others no doubt. God bless you and your journey, Kate.

Inspiring Kate! I watched it live. Incredible, and well done.

Great review from an even greater race! Congrats!
